Prophet's Guidance concerning one's place of Residence

Guidance of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on place of residence
Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, fully aware that this world is a temporary station for the traveler—a fleeting phase in the journey to the Hereafter—did not adopt the practice of focusing on lavish residences, nor did his companions or followers. His guidance did not involve the excessive care for constructing, elevating, decorating, or expanding homes. Rather, their homes were like well-designed shelters for travelers:
- They provided protection from heat and cold.
- They offered privacy, shielding from the eyes of others.
- They prevented the intrusion of animals.
- Their structure was stable, avoiding collapse due to excessive weight.
- They were not overly spacious to invite pests, nor so cramped to cause discomfort.
- They were not so elevated as to be exposed to harsh winds and harmful drafts, nor so low as to cause dampness and discomfort.
The design of such homes reflected moderation, making them the most balanced and beneficial. These homes provided optimal temperature control, neither excessively hot nor cold, and struck a balance in size—neither too small to constrict the occupants nor unnecessarily large to harbor insects in unused spaces. They avoided the presence of unpleasant elements, such as foul-smelling latrines, ensuring the environment was clean and pure.
The fragrance of such homes was among the best because Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم loved cleanliness and perfume, which were a constant part of his surroundings. His natural scent was of the most delightful fragrance, and even his perspiration carried a pleasant aroma.Undoubtedly, this type of home is among the most balanced, beneficial, and harmonious for the body, offering optimal preservation of health and well-being.
