اللَّهُمَّ فاطِرَ السمواتِ والأرضِ عَالِمَ الغَيْبِ والشَّهادةِ ذا الجلالِ ولإكْرِامِ فإنّي أعْهَدُ إليكَ في هذهِ الحياةٍ الدُّنْيا وأُشهِدُكَ وكفى بكَ شهيداً أنِّي أشْهَدُ أن لا إلهَ إلا أنتَ وحْدَكَ لا شريكَ لكَ، لكَ المُلْكُ ولكَ الحَمْدُ وأنتَ على كلِّ شيءٍ قديرٌ، وأشْهَدُ أنَّ محمَّدً عَبْدُكَ ورَسُولُكَ وأشْهَدُ أنَّ وعْدَكَ حَقُّ ولِقاءَك حَقٌ والسَّاعَةَ آتيَةٌ لا رَيْبَ فيها وأنَّك تَبْعَثُ مَن في القُبُورِ، وأنَّك إن تَكِلْني إلى نَفْسي تَكِلْني إلى ضَعْفٍ وعَورةٍ وذَنبٍ وخَطيئةٍ وأنّي لا أثِقُ إلاَّ بِرَحْمتكَ فاغْفِرْ لي ذُنُوبي كُلَّها إنَّهُ لا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إلاَّ أنتَ، وتُبْ عليَّ إنَّك أنتَ التَّوابُ الرَّحيمُ
Prophet's Guidance on treating narcolepsy (STUPOR)
فصل فِي هَدْيِهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي عِلَاجِ الْخَدَرَانِ الْكُلِّيِّ الَّذِي يَجْمُدُ مَعَهُ الْبَدَنُ
Guidance of Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم in Treating STUPOR (kind of Paralysis) That Stiffens the Body
ذَكَرَ أبو عبيد فِي غَرِيبِ الْحَدِيثِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ: أَنَّ قَوْمًا مَرُّوا بِشَجَرَةٍ فَأَكَلُوا مِنْهَا، فَكَأَنَّمَا مَرَّتْ بِهِمْ رِيحٌ، فَأَجْمَدَتْهُمْ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: قَرِّسُوا الْمَاءَ فِي الشِّنَانِ، وَصُبُّوا عَلَيْهِمْ فِيمَا بَيْنَ الْأَذَانَيْنِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ أبو عبيد: قَرِّسُوا: يَعْنِي بَرِّدُوا. وَقَوْلُ النَّاسِ: قَدْ قَرَسَ الْبَرْدُ، إِنَّمَا هُوَ مِنْ هَذَا بِالسِّينِ لَيْسَ بِالصَّادِ. وَالشِّنَانُ: الْأَسْقِيَةُ وَالْقِرَبُ الْخُلْقَانِ، يُقَالُ لِلسِّقَاءِ: شَنٌّ، وَلِلْقِرْبَةِ: شَنَّةٌ. وَإِنَّمَا ذَكَرَ الشِّنَانَ دُونَ الْجُدُدِ لِأَنَّهَا أَشَدُّ تَبْرِيدًا لِلْمَاءِ. وَقَوْلُهُ: بَيْنَ الْأَذَانَيْنِ ، يَعْنِي أَذَانَ الْفَجْرِ وَالْإِقَامَةَ، فَسَمَّى الْإِقَامَةَ أَذَانًا، انْتَهَى كَلَامُهُ {الكتاب: غريب الحديث المؤلف: أبو عُبيد القاسم بن سلاّم بن عبد الله الهروي البغدادي (ت ٢٢٤هـ)}
Ibn al-Qayyim wrote : In “Gharib al-Hadith,” Abu Ubayd narrated from Abu Uthman al-Nahdi that a group of people once passed by a tree and ate from it, after which they felt as if a wind had passed through them, rendering their bodies stiff. Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم then advised: “Cool the water in leather containers (water-skin/مشكيزة) and pour it over them between the two calls to prayer (Adhan and Iqamah).”
Abu Ubayd then explained: The word " قَرِّسُوا ~Qarrisoo" means "cool down," as people say, " قَدْ قَرَسَ الْبَرْدُ ~The cold has qarras (bitten)." The “شِّنَانُ~Shinan” refers to old leather water bags and skins, as the term "shin" is used for a skin container and " شَنَّةٌ~Shannah" for a leather water bag. He specifically mentioned using old leather containers because they cool the water more effectively. The phrase “between the two calls to prayer” refers to the Adhan for Fajr and the Iqamah; in this context, Iqamah is also called “Adhan.” This concludes Abu Ubayd’s commentary.
Some physicians have remarked that this treatment recommended by Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم is among the best remedies for this ailment, especially when it occurs in the Hejaaz region, which is a hot, dry land. The internal natural heat in the bodies of its residents tends to be weak. Pouring cool water on them during the mentioned time—known to be the coolest part of the day—causes the body's natural heat, which is dispersed throughout, to gather. This concentration of natural heat strengthens the body’s ability to expel the illness and draws strength from all parts of the body toward the core, where the disease is located. This collective energy empowers the body to push out the illness by Allah’s permission.
The term KHADRAN الخدران is translated as Narcolepsy which is a sleep disorder, but a better translation for KHADR is Narcosis or STUPOR. Stupor is the lack of critical cognitive function and level of consciousness wherein a sufferer is almost entirely unresponsive and only responds to base stimuli such as pain. Being characterized by impairments of reactions to external stimuli, it usually appears in infectious diseases, complicated toxic states, severe hypothermia, mental illnesses (e.g. schizophrenia, severe clinical depression), vascular illnesses (e.g. hypertensive encephalopathy), neoplasms (e.g. brain tumors), and vitamin D deficiency and so on.
