اللَّهُمَّ أسْتَغْفِركَ لِذَنبي وأسْألُكَ رَحْمَتَك، اللَّهُمَّ زِدْني عِلْماً ولا تُزِغْ قَلْبي بَعْدَ إذْ هَدَيْتَني وهَبْ لي مِن لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً أنَّك أنتَ الوَهَّابُ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لي ذَنبي ووَسِّعْ لي في دَاري وبَارِكْ لي في رِزْقي، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْني مَنَ التَّوَّابينَ واجْعَلْني من المتطهَّرينَ
Prophet’s Guidance regarding clothes
فصل فى تدبيره صلى الله عليه وسلم الملبس
وكان من أتم الهَدْى ، وأنفعه للبدن ، وأخفِّه عليه ، وأيسره لُبساً وخَلعاً ، وكان أكثر لُبسه الأردية والأُزُر ، وهى أخفُّ على البدن من غيرها ، وكان يلبسُ القميص ، بل كان أحبَّ الثياب إليه . وكان هَديُه فى لُبسه لما يلبَسُه أنفَعُ شىء للبدن ، فإنه لم يكن يُطيل أكمامه ، ويُوسِعُها ، بل كانت كُمُّ قميصه إلى الرُّسْغ لا يُجاوز اليد ، فتشق على لابسها ، وتمنعُه خِفَّة الحركة والبطش ، ولا تقصُرُ عن هذه ، فتبرز للحر والبرد . وكان ذيلُ قميصه وإزاره إلى أنصاف الساقين لم يتجاوز الكعبين ، فيؤذىَ الماشى ويَؤُوده ، ويجعله كالمقيَّد ، ولم يقصُرْ عن عَضلة ساقيه ، فتنكشفَ ويتأذَّى بالحر والبرد . ولم تكن عِمامته بالكبيرة التى يؤذى الرأس حملُها ، ويضعفُه ويجعله عُرْضةً للضعف والآفات ، كما يُشَاهَد من حال أصحابها ، ولا بالصغيرة التى تقصرُ عن وقاية الرأس من الحر والبرد ؛ بل وَسَطاً بين ذلك ، وكان يُدخلها تحت حَنكه ، وفى ذلك فوائدُ عديدة : فإنها تقى العنق الحر والبرد ، وهو أثبت لها ، ولا سِيَّما عِند ركوب الخيل والإبل ، والكرِّ والفرِّ ، وكثير من الناس اتخذ الكلاَليب عوضاً عن الحنك ، ويا بُعدَ ما بينهما فى النفع والزينة ، وأنت إذا تأملت هذه اللُّبسة وجدتها من أنفع اللُّبسات وأبلغِها فى حفظ صحة البدن وقوته ، وأبعدها من التكلف والمشقة على البدن . وكان يلبسُ الخِفاف فى السفر دائماً ، أو أغلب أحواله لِحاجة الرِّجلين إلى ما يقيهما من الحر والبرد ، وفى الحَضَر أحياناً . وكان أحبُّ ألوان الثياب إليه البياضَ ، والحِبَرَة ، وهى : البرود المحبَّرة . ولم يكن مِن هَدْيه لُبس الأحمر ، ولا الأسود ، ولا المصبَّغ ، ولا المصقول وأما الحُلَّة الحمراء التى لبسها ، فهى الرداءُ اليمانىُّ الذى فيه سوادٌ وحُمرة وبياض ، كالحُلَّةِ الخضراء ، فقد لبس هذه وهذه ، وقد تقدَّم تقريرُ ذلك ، وتغليطُ مَن زعم أنه لبس الأحمر القانى بما فيه كفاية
Guidance of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on Clothing
Ibn al-Qayyam wrote : Approach of Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم to clothing was among the most complete, beneficial, and practical, offering ease for the body and simplicity in dressing and undressing. Most of his attire consisted of الأردية والأُزُر ~ cloaks and waist wraps (outer garment and IZAR ~ which covered the body), which were lighter and more comfortable than other garments (الأردية refers to robes or cloaks & الأُزُر refers to waist wraps or loincloths, typically tied around the waist). He also wore shirts, which were his favorite type of clothing.
The Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه وسلم) manner of dressing was the most beneficial for the body. His sleeves, for instance, did not extend beyond the wrist, ensuring they would not become cumbersome or restrict movement. They were not excessively short either, which could leave the arms exposed to heat or cold. Similarly, the hem of his shirt and waist wrap reached midway down his calves, staying above the ankles to avoid impeding movement or causing discomfort while walking, yet not so short as to leave his legs exposed to the elements.
His turban was moderate in size—not too large, which could burden the head and lead to weakness or ailments, as is often observed among those who wear oversized turbans, nor too small, which might fail to protect the head from heat or cold. Instead, his turban struck a balance, providing both protection and comfort. Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم would wrap part of his turban under his chin, which offered several benefits: it shielded the neck from heat and cold, secured the turban more firmly, and was especially practical during activities like riding horses and camels or in combat situations. Many people later replaced this style with metal clasps or fasteners, but these do not match the practical benefits or elegance of his method.
Upon reflection, one finds that this style of dress was among the most beneficial, ensuring the preservation of the body’s health and strength while avoiding unnecessary complexity or strain.
Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم would often wear Khuff (leather socks) during travel to protect his feet from heat and cold, and occasionally during his time at home.
Among colors, Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم preferred white garments and striped Yemeni wraps (Hibrah, a type of patterned cloth). It was not his practice to wear plain red clothing, black attire, dyed fabrics, or glossy garments. As for the so-called "red garment" he wore, it referred to a Yemeni cloak with red, black, and white patterns, similar to a green patterned garment. He wore both types. The claim that he wore solid bright ~ red clothing is incorrect.
