Fatihah-Al-Kitaab (First Chapter in the Qur’an)
Healing by Surah FATIHAH :
Abu Sa'id Ar-Rafi' bin Al-Mu'alla (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Shall I teach you the greatest Surah in the Quran before you leave the Masjid?" Then he took me by the hand, and when we were about to step out, I reminded him of his promise to teach me the greatest Surah in the Quran. He said, "It is Alhamdu lillahi Rabbil Alameen (i.e., Surat Al-Fatihah) which is As-Sab' Al-Mathani (i.e., the seven oft-repeated Ayat) and the Great Quran which is given to me." [Al-Bukhari]. Riyad as-Salihin 1009
It was narrated that Ubayy bin Ka’b Radi Allaho Anh said, “The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, Allah did not reveal in the Tawraah or the Injeel anything like Umm al-Quran (al-Fatihah), which is the seven oft-recited (verses), and (Allah said) it is divided between Myself and My slave; & my slave will have what he asked for.” (Tirmidhi 3125)
Abd al-Malik Bin Umair reported that Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Fatihat al-Kitab contains healing for every disease.” Mishkat al-Masabih 2170
Al-Fatihah is the opening of the Book, the essence of the Quran, the seven oft-repeated verses, a complete healing, a beneficial remedy, a perfect incantation (Ruqyah), the key to prosperity and success, the preserver of strength, and the dispeller of worry, grief, fear, and sorrow for those who truly understand its value, and apply it properly to their ailment. Such a person must understand how to use it as a remedy and recognize the secret behind its power.
When one of the Companions understood this, he recited it over someone bitten by a snake, and the person was immediately healed. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم then said to him: "How did you know it was a Ruqyah ?"
Whoever is granted success, illuminated with the light of insight, and understands the secrets of this Surah, its teachings on the oneness of Allah, the knowledge of His essence, names, attributes, and actions, the affirmation of divine laws, predestination, and the Hereafter, along with the complete devotion to the oneness of Lordship and worship, will grasp its full power.
Reliance and entrustment to the One who has control over all affairs, to whom all praise is due, in whose hands all goodness lies, and to whom all matters return, with the recognition of one's dependence on Him for seeking guidance, which is the foundation of happiness in both worlds. When a person understands how its meanings relate to achieving benefits and warding off harm in this life and the next, and that ultimate success and complete blessings are tied to it, contingent upon its realization, it spares one from the need for many other remedies and amulets (Ta’weez). Through it, the doors of goodness are opened, and the causes of evil are repelled.
This requires a renewal of one's innate disposition, a new level of intellect, and a deeper faith. By Allah, you will not find a false statement or a baseless innovation except that Al-Fatihah contains a refutation and invalidation of it in the most straightforward, correct, and clear way. Likewise, you will not find any branch of divine knowledge, any act of the heart, or any remedy for its illnesses, except that Al-Fatihah holds the key to it and guides towards it. There is no station among the stations of those journeying towards the Lord of the worlds, except that its beginning and the end are encompassed within it.
No servant who truly grasps the meanings of Surah Al-Fatihah, clings to it, understands from whom it has come, applies it as a complete cure, an infallible protection, and a clear light, and comprehends its implications as they should be understood, will ever fall into innovation or Shirk, nor will they be afflicted by any disease of the heart.
Surah Al-Fatihah is the greatest key to the treasures of the earth, just as it is the key to the treasures of Paradise. However, not everyone knows how to unlock these treasures with this key. If those seeking treasures understood the secret of this Surah, & realized its meanings, they would open the treasures effortlessly, without obstacles or resistance.
We do not say this as exaggeration or metaphor, but as a reality. However, Allah, in His infinite wisdom, has hidden this secret from the hearts of most people, just as He has hidden the treasures of the earth from them. These hidden treasures are guarded by evil, satanic spirits that block humans from accessing them. These spirits can only be defeated by noble, elevated souls, empowered by their faith and equipped with spiritual weapons against which no devil can stand. Yet, the majority of people do not possess this level of spiritual power.
Ibn al-Qayyam also wrote about his personal experience:
"There was a time when I fell ill in Makkah, and I could not find a doctor or medicine. I treated myself by taking some water from Zamzam well, reciting Surah Al-Fatihah over it, and then drinking it. I found complete healing through this, and from then on, I would rely on this method for many ailments and benefited greatly from it."
The Masha’ikh have stated that reading of Surah Fatihah with firm belief and faith cures all maladies, whether spiritual or worldly, external or internal. To use its writing as an amulet is useful in the treatment of diseases. It occurs in Sihah Sittah (the six authentic books of Hadith) that Sahaabah used to read Surah Fatihah and blow upon those bitten by a snake or a scorpion, and even on the epileptic and on the mentally deranged. Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم had also approved of this.
Surah al-Fatihah is also written with rose water and saffron, on a porcelain dish, then the writing is washed off and the wash-water is given to the patient for drinking. This is a good treatment for chronic diseases. To read it seven times and then blow on the patient is similarly an accepted treatment for toothache, headache, and pain in the stomach.
Make it a habit to recite Surah Al-Fatihah 7 times and blow over your glass or bottle of water before drinking it (whenever you're thirsty). You can also recite and blow Surah Al-Fatihah over all the water bottles in your refrigerator or kitchen, so that your family members and children drink water blessed with Surah Al-Fatihah.
